Vehicle recalls are common, but the most recent one from Ram impacts a significant 1.4 million trucks. Ram has issued a notification of a defect concerning trucks with tailgates that may unexpectedly unlatch, posing a potential safety hazard on the road. It might be a good idea to secure any cargo properly before departing from a home improvement store.
As per information submitted to the NHTSA, Ram indicates that approximately 1,234,657 of the impacted vehicles are in the United States. Additionally, 120,000 trucks are located in Canada, with 26,000 in Mexico and an additional 27,000 outside of North America. It’s worth noting that several Ram models from 2019 to 2022 are affected, including the 1500, 2500, and 3500 variants.
These vehicles may have been assembled with incorrectly aligned tailgate strikers. The suspected timeframe for this issue spans from May 18, 2018, to June 1, 2022. The alignment tooling at Ram’s production facilities was enhanced after this period.
Stellantis has not received any reports of injuries resulting from cargo coming loose from the truck bed, and the decision to recall these trucks was made voluntarily. A total of 736 warranty claims have been submitted in connection to the tailgate issue. All necessary repairs will be performed at no cost, and since there is no faulty component, the solution will involve realigning the strikers if required.
