I have high standards when it comes to portable chargers. The market is flooded with power banks that offer various features, but a mere 10,000-mAh capacity doesn’t impress me anymore. It was a pleasant surprise to find out that Raycon’s Magic Power Bank not only met my expectations, but also exceeded them with features I never knew I desired in a portable battery. And the cherry on top? The built-in phone stand.
This power bank boasts a 10,000-mAh capacity, enough juice to charge your phone approximately twice. It comes equipped with two built-in charging cables – one USB-C and one Lightning cable for older Apple devices. Additionally, it includes two USB ports (one USB-A and one USB-C) on the front for connecting supplementary cables.
Though Raycon dubs it a 5-in-1 power bank, you may have noticed that these cables and ports only amount to four charging options. The fifth option is located on top of the power bank: a wireless charging pad that is MagSafe-compatible and delivers 15 watts of power. While this feature is optimized for select iPhones that support Apple’s magnetic accessory system, the wireless charger is compatible with any phone that supports the Qi standard. It’s important to note that since it is not officially Made-for-iPhone-certified, MagSafe iPhones will only receive charging speeds of up to 7.5 watts when using the magnetic interface, meaning it may charge slower.
Furthermore, this battery supports all five charging methods simultaneously. (For certain phones, you may need to press the button beneath the digital display to activate wireless charging.) If this were the extent of the power bank’s capabilities, it would easily become my go-to daily carry battery. But there’s more.
Exemplary Add-Ons
Replenishing the Magic Power Bank is a breeze as it features a two-prong wall plug that easily fits into standard North American wall sockets. Alternatively, you can recharge it through the USB-C port on the front if a wall outlet is not readily accessible.
A handy rubber loop is located in one corner of the power bank, making it convenient to attach to a bag or belt. I often find myself at events where my phone battery drains faster than usual, and toting around a large battery in my pocket is cumbersome. This loop is a thoughtful addition. If I prefer not to carry a bag, I can easily clip it to one of my belt loops using a carabiner.
On the face of the battery, you’ll find a digital display showcasing the current charge level of the power bank. Although this feature is becoming more common in power banks, it remains a nice touch. I’ve owned numerous portable batteries, but only a few have provided such accurate information about their remaining charge. Once you experience this convenience, it becomes challenging to settle for anything less.
Innovative Phone Stand
Equipped with a wireless charger, digital display, built-in cables, and wall plug, I was already prepared to declare this my preferred portable battery. However, I stumbled upon a peculiar plastic slider at the bottom. With a few ridges, it securely slid out and clicked into position. Without fully understanding its purpose, I was elated to discover its clever function.
It was a phone stand. A phone stand! Placing the battery on my desk, I positioned my phone sideways, allowing it to rest at a slight angle for effortless video viewing. Additionally, I could prop the phone upright to monitor notifications while it sat on my desk (or to watch vertical videos).
