Ram created excitement over the past week with teasers hinting at a storm of sorts. It seemed very obvious to most observers that this would lead to the introduction of the Hurricane inline-six model. However, that was not the case. Ram’s big reveal was actually the announcement of a special Lunar Edition appearance package for the 2023 Ram 1500 TRX and Rebel models. No new engine updates just yet.
The Lunar Edition stands out with its unique Ceramic Gray paint color and blue seat stitching on the TRX variant. The package includes some additional features that elevate the price of the Lunar Editions to $72,205 for the Ram 1500 Rebel and $108,340 for the TRX. This is before factoring in the inevitable dealer markups.
The teaser video featuring a sandstorm led many to associate it with the Hurricane model—a Facebook user even linked the May 10 reveal date to the speculated 510 horsepower output of the Hurricane. However, it’s unusual to introduce a significant engine update mid-model year, and Ram would likely have provided clearer hints if a Hurricane-powered truck was on the way.
Rumors from 2021 suggested that a turbo inline-six engine might eventually power Ram vehicles. This engine is already utilized in the 2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer L but no concrete links to the Ram 1500 have emerged yet. Given Stellantis’ need to reduce fleet emissions, it is likely that an engine announcement may happen closer to the production of 2024 models. Ram might be holding off on the engine reveal to maximize its impact, especially after the recent unveiling of the 2025 Ram 1500 REV.
