According to reports from CarBuzz, the design for these jump seats, which resembles what Ram showcased in the 1500 Revolution Concept last year, has been filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. There is strong speculation that these jump seats may be included in the production version of the Ram 1500 REV, though some skepticism remains. While patents do not guarantee production, Ram appears to be making more significant strides than in the past.
The proposed jump seats would function as foldable cushions that can be deployed from the cab’s rear wall, positioned behind the second-row seats, and easily stowed when not in use. The design includes cargo hooks, making it convenient for storing items like backpacks or groceries.
While jump seats are not a new feature in pickups, Ram’s design differs from traditional approaches. Older models, such as the Chevrolet S-10, typically featured jump seats facing each other to maximize space. In contrast, Ram’s version positions the seats forward, necessitating additional cab space, suggesting that Ram might introduce its Mega Cab layout from its heavy-duty models to the half-ton 1500 lineup. Currently, that space is dedicated to behind-seat storage.
The patent drawings and the Ram 1500 Revolution Concept indicate that the jump seats would be located behind second-row captain’s chairs. While this arrangement would enhance access to the jump seats, it could limit the overall seating capacity, as it would accommodate a maximum of six people—three in the front and three in the back—potentially making it uncomfortable for adults seated in the jump seats.
Moreover, the Ram 1500 Revolution Concept features several other intriguing options worth production consideration. These include a pass-through front trunk, a midgate, and a bed extender, allowing drivers to transport items up to 18 feet long without needing a trailer. Such innovations could revolutionize trips to the home improvement store, making it easier to transport lumber and other lengthy materials.
