The chance to acquire a Lancia Delta Integrale is consistently appealing. The renowned Italian rally-inspired hot-hatch is among the most stylish vehicles of the ’80s and ’90s, so whenever Delta Integrales arise on auction platforms, they invariably command significant sums. Nevertheless, this particular model could attract higher offers than usual because it stands out from the rest. This 1992 model available for purchase on Bring a Trailer originates from the imagination of Stellantis Chief Design Officer Ralph Gilles.
Gilles acquired this Delta Integrale Evo 1 in 2018 after its importation to the United States from Japan by the former owner. The Evo 1 represented a more aggressive, visually appealing, and sought-after iteration of the standard Delta Integrale, but Gilles customized it to be even more exhilarating.
Since Gilles assumed possession, he commissioned the engine refurbishment with Colombo & Bariani cams, a Walker’s Garage exhaust, and an Eprom ECU. Subsequently, he equipped it with adaptable coilovers and 15-inch Speedline alloy rims. The latter set is fitted with Kuhmo Ecstas manufactured in 2017, although they will require replacement. Internally, a Momo steering wheel and gear lever complement the generously cushioned, distinctly ’80s Recaro seating.
With only about 63,000 miles on the gauge, Gilles’ Lancia Delta Integrale Evo 1 remains remarkably pristine, especially post its engine overhaul. The Rosso Monza finish appears nearly flawless, the cabin appears devoid of any wear indications, and it includes an extensive maintenance record.
When in stock form, the Lancia’s spirited 2.0-liter turbo four produced 210 horsepower and 220 lb-ft of torque, but its current output post modifications remains undisclosed. In the video featured in the listing, Gilles can be seen piloting the Delta Integrale, revealing it to be an absolute thrill. The engine still delivers robust performance, emitting a splendid Group B-style roar, and appears to operate seamlessly.
I have yet to encounter a car enthusiast who doesn’t harbor a desire to possess a Lancia Delta Integrale, particularly an Evo 1. However, acquiring one previously owned and customized by Ralph Gilles truly sets it apart.
