Princess Cruises achieves a new World Record for ‘Biggest Pizza Extravaganza’ – All Things Cruise

Over 60,000 portions of piping hot pizza were enjoyed by Princess Cruises passengers at various locations across their Love Boat fleet, securing the cruise line the title of hosting the “Biggest Pizza Extravaganza”.

“The ambiance was absolutely electrifying as Princess Cruises clinched a Guinness World Records distinction for the Largest Pizza Extravaganza in multiple spots,” noted Callie Smith, an adjudicator from Guinness World Records, in an official statement. This groundbreaking feat unfolded simultaneously on 16 ships spanning three continents and eight different time zones.

The event on July 12 marked the beginning of a fresh collaboration with Chef Tony Gemignani, a 13-time holder of the World Pizza Champion title. Chef Gemignani has crafted two pizzas exclusively for Princess with an exciting fusion of delectable flavors and premium ingredients ranging from Soppressata sausage and fiery honey to agave pesto and fresh goat cheese. He also shared recipes for three of his signature, award-winning pizzas.

“At its core, Princess is all about offering exceptional experiences, and nothing quite beats the essence of pizza,” mentioned Princess President John Padgett in a statement. “While Princess has always been renowned for serving the finest pizza on the high seas, we took it to a whole new level by joining forces with the iconic Tony Gemignani and simultaneously securing a Guinness World Records accolade.”

Chef Gemignani’s specially crafted recipes are set to make their debut at Alfredo’s on the new Sun Princess, enhancing an already impressive array of culinary delights at sea, with plans to extend to the remaining fleet by the summer season.

The pizzas designed by Chef Gemignani will take center stage at Alfredo’s and Gigi’s specialty pizzerias, intimate sit-down venues offering a tempting menu of freshly made, single-serve pizzas, salads, wine, beer and more. These venues were acclaimed as the “Best Pizza at Sea” by USA Today, alongside the complimentary Slice outlets on the Lido Deck of Princess ships.

Chef Gemignani personally mentored Princess chefs at his renowned Tony’s Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco and onboard Princess vessels, ensuring that all five pizzas are meticulously crafted to replicate his original, handcrafted pizzas at sea.

Chef Gemignani holds the record for being the most decorated pizzaiolo in American history, an award-winning chef, restaurateur, esteemed instructor, philanthropist, founder of Slice House by Tony Gemignani and author of PIZZA, The Pizza Bible, and The Pursuit of Pizza.

Raised in Northern California, Gemignani inaugurated his maiden restaurant in San Francisco in 2009 – Tony’s Pizza Napoletana – offering a variety of pizza styles such as Classic American, Italian, Sicilian, and Neapolitan, meticulously prepared with artisanal flours, an assortment of authentic sauces, seasonal ingredients, and cooked in seven distinct, region-specific ovens. The eatery garnered immediate acclaim upon its launch, crowned as the best pizzeria by USA Today and the top pizza joint by the Travel Channel.

“Tony is the undisputed champion with a multitude of global titles, expertise, and a burning passion for crafting the perfect pizza,” Padgett expressed.

Princess now boasts the distinction of holding two Guinness World Records titles for breaking the record of hosting the largest marriage vow renewal ceremony in multiple venues on Feb. 11, 2020, with 1,443 couples partaking onboard three ships.

Similarly, Chef Gemignani, a contributor to the previous record for “Biggest Pizza Extravaganza” set in 2023, now holds four Guinness World Records titles, including “Longest Pizza in the World,” “Most People Simultaneously Tossing Pizza Dough,” “Largest Pizza Base Spun in Two Minutes,” and “Most Consecutive Pizza Rolls Across the Shoulders in 30 Seconds.”
