The Audi RS6 and RS7 have been enhanced with more speed, despite already being lightning-fast. The latest Audi RS6 Avant Performance and RS7 Sportback Performance models are set to provide an exhilarating driving experience.
Continuing the legacy of high-performance Audi RS cars, these new RS Performance variants have undergone power upgrades and weight reductions to improve acceleration and top speeds. The 0-to-62 mph time has been reduced to 3.4 seconds, with a top speed of 180 mph, which can be increased to 190 mph. Audi has pushed the boundaries, elevating the performance of these already impressive luxury vehicles.
Audi has boosted the twin-turbo hybrid V8 engine shared by the cars by 30 horsepower and 37 pound-feet of torque, resulting in a total output of 621 hp and 627 lb-ft. Power is transmitted through an eight-speed automatic gearbox to Quattro all-wheel drive featuring an enhanced center locking differential that is now more compact and lighter. The system can distribute torque to the rear wheels by default, up to 60%, but can adjust it to 70% front or 85% rear based on traction levels.
The Performance models offer new lightweight 22-inch wheels, with a weight reduction of 11 pounds per corner. The chassis has been lightened by 18 pounds due to reduced sound insulation, while an additional 75 pounds of unsprung weight can be saved with the option of carbon-ceramic brakes included in the RS Dynamics Package. Paired with 285-section Continental Sport Contact 7 tires, the Performance models can achieve significantly shorter braking distances of up to 6.6 feet from 62 mph. This capability is crucial when aiming for the top speed of 190 mph achievable with the RS Dynamics Package.
While the RS6 Avant Performance and RS7 Sportback Performance will debut in Europe in December, they are not expected to reach the United States until the 2024 model year, according to an Audi spokesperson. Price and availability details for the U.S. market are projected to be announced in summer 2023. Given the limited availability of past Performance models, it’s advisable to plan ahead financially as the models are anticipated to start around €135,000 (approximately $139,500). Dreaming about the RS6 Performance—or the even more high-performance variant rumored to be on the horizon—may require some financial groundwork.
