Reservations for the Ford Mustang GTD, priced at $325,000, have officially closed in the U.S. and Canada, with all build slots filled through 2025 and 2026. Within just over a month, the Mustang GTD received more than 7,500 applications. To celebrate this milestone, Ford is set to take its supercar on a world tour, starting with a debut in Europe at Le Mans, followed by stops at the 24 Hours of Spa, the Goodwood Festival, and the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife.
This news may disappoint those who missed the opportunity to apply for one of these powerful vehicles, which are expected to deliver over 800 horsepower from the GTD’s supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine. Ford indicates that the applicant pool is diverse, although it’s primarily drawn from motorsport fans. Some applicants may be interested in reselling, but Ford has yet to reveal any specific conditions for buyers.
Interestingly, only 20 percent of the 7,500 applicants from the U.S. and Canada reported owning a competitor’s vehicle with similar performance. This suggests that current owners of high-performance cars, like the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, represent a small fraction of those aspiring to buy a Mustang GTD once production begins in the coming years. Additionally, Ford noted that 25 percent of applicants, or one in four, are current Mustang owners.
Currently, the Ford Mustang GTD is still under development and has not yet entered production. It will be produced in limited quantities. Ford intends to launch a video series showcasing the engineering and development process of the Grand Touring Daytona, commencing prior to the supercar’s major unveiling at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. One of the primary objectives of this tour is to carry on the GTD’s testing, which started at various racetracks, including Sebring International Raceway and Virginia International Raceway.
In an official statement, Ford confirmed that the North American online application window is now closed, but reservations in Mexico are still open and are scheduled to begin in June of this year. It is uncertain how long this application period will last, but the launch in Mexico will coincide with similar openings for customers in Europe and the Middle East. The European debut and subsequent tour will precede a timed lap attempt at the Nürburgring later this year, where Ford aims for the Mustang GTD to complete a lap in under seven minutes.
