During this off week for Formula 1, Mercedes is stepping in to quench your thirst for racing adrenaline. In a new footage, the seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton and his partner George Russell get the chance to handle Mercedes-AMG’s latest high-performance vehicles, including the AMG One outfitted with an F1 engine.

F1 drivers are not typical individuals like you and me. They possess reflexes, response times, and hand-eye coordination that would put the world’s finest athletes to shame. Their tasks involve executing precise maneuvers at speeds surpassing the triple digits, enduring the gravitational forces that are commonly experienced by combat pilots and astronauts. Thus, it’s always captivating to observe their interactions with everyday road cars that us mere mortals can purchase and drive.

This video primarily serves as a promotional showcase for both Mercedes’ freshest models and its star racers, both of whom recently penned extended contracts through the 2025 season. However, it doesn’t detract from the enjoyment it offers.

The concept behind the video may seem comical, as the two F1 maestros are handed a box of keys representing five diverse cars and tasked to pick keys randomly. Knowing that all the keys are present, it’s a certainty that they will try out each vehicle. Predictably, both Hamilton and Russell happen upon the keys to the AMG One first and embark on an exhilarating slalom ride.

Exhibiting his trademark finesse, Lewis Hamilton effortlessly maneuvers the multi-million dollar, 1,000-horsepower hypercar through the slalom track. He glides through it as if it were a mere plaything, rather than a road-going projectile that holds the production car lap record at the Nürburgring.

Post the AMG One stint, they switch to different rides, with Hamilton delving into the new AMG GT. Although impressive, it lacks the visual charm and rockstar-like appeal of its forerunner. Meanwhile, Russell takes the wheel of the AMG E63, prompting Hamilton to jest, “Best of luck with your four-wheel-drive, mate.”

The clip may run for only a couple of minutes, yet it ignites the desire to witness F1 hotshots wreak havoc in ordinary cars more frequently, reminiscent of Hamilton’s escapades in Tokyo.
