When considering vehicles suited for off-road adventures, a cargo van typically doesn’t top the list. Yet, envisioning a van designed for off-road use, capable of transporting all your gear while navigating rocky terrains, sounds enticing.
Thankfully, Nissan has a variety of vans to offer, along with ample resources. Collaborating with Xtreme Off-Road’s Ian Johnson, the automaker transformed an NV 2500HD Cargo Van into the extensively modified NV Cargo X. The van’s gas engine was replaced with a 5.0-liter V8 diesel from the Nissan Titan XD, setting the NV 2500HD on a promising path from the start.
Next, Johnson added heavy-duty leaf springs and shocks, along with a complete front axle upgrade. The van was lifted to accommodate gigantic 37-inch off-road tires, along with skid plates and tubular side steps.
The NV Cargo X boasts an impressive 22 inches of ground clearance
When off-road challenges arise, Nissan has equipped the van with a robust 10,000-pound winch to assist in extricating it from tough situations. Alongside the essential mechanical enhancements, the NV Cargo X features plenty of LED lighting and decals, giving it a bold off-road appearance.
Rather than leaving the cargo area vacant, the NV Cargo X includes a full-sized spare tire, an air compressor, a welder, and a jack for any necessary repairs on the trail. For those who intend to fully utilize this van’s capabilities, these tools would undoubtedly be essential for any driver.
