Great news for Amazon Echo users! On Wednesday, Nissan revealed that you can now use Alexa voice commands to control several models in its vehicle lineup.
While Alexa won’t be able to drive your car, you can start the engine, lock or unlock the doors, flash the lights, and even honk the horn simply by voicing commands to your Echo device, all from the comfort of your home.
Nissan announced that it will incorporate Alexa with its system later this October, available at no additional cost for owners of vehicles equipped with NissanConnect telematics. Users can access Alexa through the “NissanConnect Services” section in the Amazon Skills Store.
Nine Nissan models will support Alexa’s features right away: the 2016/17/17.5 Altima, 2018 Armada, 2017 GT-R, 2016/17 Maxima, 2017.5 Murano, 2017/18 Pathfinder, 2016/17 Rogue, 2017 Rogue Sport, 2016/17 Sentra, 2017 Titan, and 2016/17 Titan XD. This means you can hear your GT-R starting up in the driveway as often as you like, all without stepping outside.
If your vehicle isn’t included, don’t worry, as Nissan plans to extend this function to additional models, starting with the 2011 to 2018 Leaf.
This isn’t Amazon’s first foray into the automotive sector aimed at enhancing connectivity on the road, and it certainly won’t be the last.
