The anticipation surrounding Scout’s new electric off-road vehicles is nearing its end. Since Volkswagen brought the Scout brand back, details have been scarce. However, on October 24, in Nashville, Tennessee, Scout will finally unveil its forthcoming SUVs and trucks, marking nearly 44 years since the last Scout II was produced.

While the specifics of the unveiled models remain a mystery, it appears that Scout is set to deliver on its promise of launching two vehicles, as more than one will be showcased in October. “To the makers, doers, everyday explorers, and our dedicated Scout community, we eagerly anticipate revealing our new SUV and truck concepts that we’ve been diligently developing,” Scout stated in a Facebook post.

Although most information about the initial Scout vehicles remains under wraps, it is confirmed that one will be an SUV and the other a pickup truck. Teaser images suggest that some design elements may be inspired by the Scouts from the 1960s and 70s, but not much else is known. Interestingly, neither vehicle will utilize any existing Volkswagen platform. In an interview with TechCrunch, Scout CEO Scott Keogh indicated that both models would incorporate some Volkswagen components, such as electric motors and possibly some interior technology, but the electric body-on-frame platform will be exclusive to Scout. Additionally, a significant deal between Volkswagen and Rivian could allow Scout to utilize some architectural elements from the R1S and R1T.

Furthermore, Scout may have hinted at the names of the two vehicles in its Facebook post, using hashtags like “scout80,” “scout800,” and “scoutii.” The Scout 80 was the brand’s first model, an iconic SUV introduced in 1960. The Scout 800 followed in 1966, featuring similar design but with enhancements for better usability. In 1971, the Scout II debuted, sporting the familiar shape recognized by many. Shortly after, a long-wheelbase pickup called the Terra and an extended SUV named the Traveler were introduced. This raises the question of whether the new models will be designated as the Scout and Scout II, correlating to the SUV and pickup, respectively, with two trim levels: 80 and 800.

It will be intriguing to see how close the new concept vehicles are to production, as production is set to commence in 2026. We will find out more on October 24.
