Geely and Renault Group have introduced a collaborative venture called HORSE Powertrain, with its headquarters based in London. This partnership will concentrate on developing next-generation hybrid systems, internal combustion engines, transmissions, and battery solutions.
The objective is to lead the way in the advancement of ultra-low emission hybrid and combustion technologies.
While the UK and Europe are committed to the widespread adoption of zero carbon emission vehicles, primarily electric-powered, the transition to electrification in some regions worldwide may present challenges. Both Geely and Renault Group anticipate a sustained demand for efficient combustion engines for years to come. They predict that more than half of globally manufactured vehicles will still utilize combustion engines by 2040.
They advocate for a blend of diverse powertrain technologies, encompassing highly effective internal combustion engines (ICE), environmentally friendly e-fuels, and hydrogen, to effectively accomplish decarbonization globally.
Luca de Meo, the CEO of Renault Group, emphasized: “This day signifies a significant stride towards addressing the major hurdles confronting the automotive sector: the decarbonization of transportation on roads. Forming a partnership with a top-tier company like Geely to establish a new entity with the proficiency and know-how to innovate ultra-low emission internal combustion engines and highly efficient hybrid technologies is fundamental for the times to come.”
