MTRWestern, a U.S. motorcoach company, has expanded its fleet with the addition of two new CX45E electric buses from ABC Companies and Van Hool, along with two Ford E-Transit electric shuttle vans.
The 45-foot CX45E buses from ABC each have a capacity to transport up to 56 passengers, while the two Ford E-Transit shuttle vans can accommodate up to 11 passengers each. With these latest acquisitions, MTRWestern’s electric vehicle fleet now totals five, and the company plans to incorporate four more electric buses by the end of 2025. Additionally, MTRWestern operates a 45-foot Van Hool CX45E, which has been successfully serving a 200-mile round trip on the Amtrak Cascades route between Seattle and Bellingham since last year.
“Modern electric buses today can travel over 270 miles on a single charge, making them ideal for long regional routes without the need for frequent recharging. Our rapid charging facilities at our depots in Seattle and Portland allow us to recharge the batteries during stops or breaks between charter services,” stated MTRWestern President Jeremy Butzlaff. “As regional charging infrastructure grows, we will be able to deploy these zero-emission buses throughout our entire regional network without compromising operational efficiency or the customer experience.”
