The McLaren W1 has officially arrived! Described by McLaren as “the real supercar,” this new model continues the prestigious legacy of the renowned F1 and the celebrated P1.
Earlier today, images of the W1 surfaced online, and the initial design left us somewhat underwhelmed. Fortunately, those images turned out to be early concepts; the final design is significantly more striking.
The W1 exhibits classic McLaren characteristics, featuring intricate curves and aerodynamic surfaces. Its front end is marked by large air intakes and what looks to be an S-duct, complemented by sleek LED headlights that present a fresh light signature.
Looking at the side, you will notice F1-style barge boards designed to guide air into the prominent intake, while the rear showcases an impressive diffuser, a central exhaust, and an active rear wing capable of extending by 300 mm to generate up to 1000 kg of downforce.
At the core of the W1 is a brand-new 4.0-liter V8 hybrid powertrain that generates an impressive 1258 hp and 988 lb-ft of torque, with a maximum rev limit of 9200 rpm. This powertrain stands as McLaren’s most potent and highest-revving engine ever for a road car and is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Weighing in at just 1399 kg, the W1 boasts a remarkable power-to-weight ratio of 911 PS per tonne, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 124 mph in a mere 5.8 seconds. This makes the new W1 the fastest-accelerating and fastest-lapping road-legal McLaren ever produced.
McLaren plans to produce a limited number of 399 W1 units, all of which have already been sold. The estimated price for one of these exceptional vehicles is around $2.6 million!
