Despite McLaren’s intention to unveil 12 new models over the next four years, none of them will be crossovers.

In an interview with Top Gear, McLaren’s chief designer, Dan Parry-Williams, expressed his views on SUVs, stating, “I’m not the first person to point out an SUV is neither particularly sporty or utilitarian.” He emphasized the brand’s commitment to a purpose-driven approach, adding with a hint of humor, “It’s not ‘everything for a reason,’ unless the reason is to clutter up the streets.”

While one might expect a luxury supercar manufacturer like McLaren to shy away from producing a crossover, the landscape has changed. With competitors like Lamborghini launching the Urus, Aston Martin preparing to introduce the DBX, and Ferrari developing an “FUV,” nearly all of McLaren’s rivals have an SUV either in their current lineup or on the horizon.

According to Top Gear, all of McLaren’s forthcoming vehicles will belong to one of its three existing product categories: the entry-level Sports Series, which includes the 570S and its variations; the Super Series, led by the 720S; and the top-tier Ultimate Series, featuring models like the P1, Senna, and the forthcoming BP23 three-seater. Until McLaren considers adding a Utility Series, it appears there will be no plans for a British SUV to rival the likes of the Urus. Fortunately, the company is thriving without venturing into this territory..
