Lotus has introduced an innovative electric supercar concept named Theory 1, which will serve as the basis for future models from the brand.
The Theory 1 is constructed around a carbon fibre chassis, incorporating composite and polycarbonate body panels. The car measures 4490 mm in length with a wheelbase of 2650 mm, and Lotus states it will weigh less than 1600 kg.
At its core, the Theory 1 is equipped with a 70 kWh battery feeding two electric motors—one for each axle. This setup generates a total of 987 hp, enabling the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in under 2.5 seconds, with a top speed reaching 200 mph and an estimated WLTP range of 250 miles.
The Theory 1 is not only advanced in its powertrain but also boasts a radical design. It features a glass canopy made of recycled materials and distinctive doors that both lift and slide backward. Inside, there is a three-seat layout, with the driver’s seat located centrally.
Ben Payne, Lotus Group’s Vice President of Design, stated, “With Theory 1, we’ve built on everything Lotus has achieved so far in its 76-year history, to push the boundaries for what it means to drive a performance vehicle. We aim to show that there’s no need for compromise—with both digital and analogue features working together in the future vehicle. This allows us to provide drivers with an unparalleled immersive driving experience characterized by raw emotion, functionality, and connectivity at its core.”
