The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV for the 2024 model year has notably enhanced EPA range and slightly increased efficiency compared to the previous 2023 model.

This updated model is fitted with a 118-kilowatt-hour battery, a significant upgrade from the previous capacity of about 108.4 kWh. The 10 kWh or a 9% higher battery capacity, along with other enhancements, is the primary reason behind the extended driving range.

The local production of the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV takes place in Alabama, U.S. This model made its market debut in mid-2022, and since then, nearly 15,000 units have been sold in the U.S.

The EPA rating for the entry-level EQS 450+ SUV variant, featuring rear-wheel drive, now stands at 339 miles. The all-wheel drive models offer 330 miles of EPA range—an increase of 45 miles or nearly 16% compared to earlier versions. The top-tier 2024 Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 4Matic SUV achieves a range of 321 miles.

The improvements are evident when we compare the previous and current mileage figures:

  • EQS 450+ SUV: 339 miles (a rise of 34 miles or 11% from 305 miles)
  • EQS 450 4Matic SUV: 330 miles (an increase of 45 miles or 16% from 285 miles)
  • EQS 580 4Matic SUV: 330 miles (a boost of 45 miles or 16% from 285 miles)
  • EQS 680 4Matic SUV: 321 miles (up by 41 miles or 15% from 280 miles)

We suspect the increase in range for the 450+ version was slightly mitigated by the larger 21-inch wheels, as opposed to the previous 20-inch wheels.

The energy consumption, inclusive of charging losses, for the 2024 Mercedes EQS SUV has increased compared to its predecessor.

The EQS 450+ SUV with 21-inch wheels is estimated at 86 MPGe or approximately 392 watt-hours per mile (2.6 miles/kWh). This decreases slightly to 83 MPGe or 406 Wh/mi, equivalent to 2.5 miles/kWh for the standard all-wheel drive models known as 4Matic.

The high-end 2024 Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 4Matic SUV shows the least efficiency, rated at 81 MPGe equivalent to 416 Wh/mi or 2.4 miles/kWh.

Pricing

It seems that the pricing for the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV remains largely unchanged. The starting price for this model is $104,400, which remains consistent with last year. The AWD variant is also priced at $107,400. However, the EQS 580 4Matic SUV model now costs $1,400 more, at $127,350. Additionally, a destination charge of $1,150 needs to be accounted for in all cases.

As for the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 4Matic SUV listed on the manufacturer’s website, it is still equipped with the same 108-kWh battery configuration, so it is uncertain whether the price of $179,900 will apply to the 2024 model year.

Due to surpassing the $80,000 threshold, this model does not qualify for the $7,500 federal tax credit.
