Having ceased production in the United States some years back due to declining sedan sales, the Cadillac CT6 has found a thriving market in China. The sustained popularity of the CT6 in China has prompted Cadillac to introduce a new iteration of the model, equipped with the latest cutting-edge technology from GM.
The all-new CT6, likely designated for the 2024 model year, is built on an updated version of the rear-wheel-drive Omega platform seen in previous CT6 iterations. Retaining a similar size to its predecessor, this model also boasts an impeccable 50:50 weight distribution. This is achieved through a single, lightweight powertrain option comprising a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission powering the rear wheels. For now, the absence of a supercharged LT4 V8 engine is notable.

The CT6 also embraces the latest Cadillac design elements, featuring a curved interior display screen, top-notch AKG audio system, and mood-enhancing 26-color ambient lighting. With a striking new crimson interior option, complemented by sumptuous semi-aniline Nappa leather and open-pore dark ash wood accents, the vehicle exudes luxury. Noteworthy features include the updated GM Magneride damping system and the hands-free Super Cruise driving assistance technology—seemingly tailored for the roads of China.
The differentiation in the continued availability of the CT6 between China and the U.S. largely stems from distinct luxury car market preferences in these regions. In China, the act of being chauffeured holds prestigious value, leading many automakers to offer long-wheelbase versions exclusively for China, emphasizing rear-seat comfort. This trend inherently favors larger vehicles like the CT6.
American luxury brands hold a special allure in China, where even Buick sales surpass their U.S. figures. The Buick LaCrosse, for instance, remains popular in China. Notably, Cadillac’s sales in China have eclipsed those in the U.S. since 2021.
Priced starting at around $50,800, the fresh CT6 seems poised to continue its success in the market. While the 2.0-liter engine may not be the most powerful, there’s intrigue in imagining the evolution of Cadillac’s full-size luxury sedans unrestricted by the dominance of EVs. As appealing as the Celestiq may be, there’s a yearning for an alternate reality where its V16 engine resurfaces and flourishes.
