Before, I’ve encountered some fascinating engine substitutions in Lamborghinis, typically involving LS motors. Yet, never had I witnessed a Lamborghini equipped with a diesel powerplant like this one. The crew at 1 Way Diesel Performance stumbled upon a thoroughly wrecked 2004 Lamborghini Gallardo and not only opted to revive it but also decided to insert a twin-turbo straight-six Cummins diesel into its midship engine bay.
The Gallardo, powered by Cummins, was showcased on the Texas Metal Loud and Lifted show by Motor Trend, chronicling the entire build process. It stands out as one of the most daring and unconventional Lamborghini transformations I’ve ever come across.

Upon locating the Gallardo, 1 Way Diesel Performance unearthed what was essentially only half of a shell. It lacked a powertrain, suspension, interior, and an entire rear quarter panel. Scarcely enough remained to classify it as a Lamborghini Gallardo, and what little was salvageable had been crushed and deformed. A total mess indeed. Yet, this situation also presented a distinctive opportunity to create something remarkable from scratch.
After rectifying what was salvageable of the frame, new quarter panels and a hood were purchased to restore its body. Subsequently, the firewall needed to be removed and custom-fabricated to accommodate the substantial Cummins diesel engine. Everything from the motor mounts to the headers and intake manifold had to be meticulously custom-crafted to enable the engine’s installation. This bespoke fabrication not only functions effectively but also elevates the engine bay into a mechanical masterpiece.

This Gallardo, now powered by Cummins, may not appeal to all, particularly dedicated Lamborghini enthusiasts. Nonetheless, it’s challenging not to admire the extensive effort, artistry, and personalized touches invested in crafting what could arguably be the most aesthetically pleasing diesel-powered vehicle I’ve encountered.
