Kia has announced an update to its logo, moving away from the simple oval design featuring the word “Kia.” While a redesign seemed straightforward, the outcome has sparked some debate over its appearance.
The brand introduced a new, modern graphic, but many observers have pointed out that it seems oddly designed. Some editorial staff members noted that it looks like it spells out “K” and “N” rather than “K,” “I,” and “A.” Additionally, the consensus is that the logo appears skewed. Intrigued, we analyzed it using Photoshop and confirmed that the Kia logo indeed has a crooked quality.
Analyzing the logo with guidelines reveals that the lower right and upper left ends of the stylized letters extend beyond the endpoints of the other characters. Without those guidelines, this creates the illusion that the logo is tilted slightly counter-clockwise. Kia’s choice in styling may have been unintentional, but it has inadvertently sparked attention. This subtle quirk might remind some of the realization that Colorado isn’t actually a perfect square, altering how one perceives the state.
Despite this peculiar visual effect, it is unlikely that the crookedness of the Kia badge will be easily noticeable on vehicles in real life. Once they are removed from the digital realm and applied to cars, this slight imperfection may not stand out at all. However, knowing this detail might forever change how you see the new Kia badges, making them appear a tad askew.
