Jaecoo J7 PHEV ROI now open in Malaysia – plug-in hybrid, 347 PS/525 Nm, 88 km EV range, launch soon?

Registrations of interest have commenced for the Jaecoo J7 PHEV following its preview earlier this May in Malaysia. This plug-in hybrid variant joins the Jaecoo J7, which made its official debut in Malaysia in July, available in both 2WD and 4WD models. The J7 PHEV is equipped with a 1.5 TGDi petrol engine and features a dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) with an electric motor at the front axle, delivering a combined output of 347 PS and 525 Nm of torque.

In comparison, the traditional petrol variant of the Jaecoo J7 is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine, generating 197 PS and 290 Nm of torque, transferred either to the front or all four wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The J7 PHEV boasts a claimed electric-only range of 88 kilometers and achieves a combined fuel consumption of 4.9 l/100 km (or 20.4 km per liter) in full hybrid mode. Jaecoo claims that with its fully charged battery and 60-liter fuel tank, the J7 PHEV can cover more than 1,200 kilometers.

The J7 PHEV sets itself apart from many other plug-in hybrids with its capability of utilizing DC fast charging, as evidenced by the CC2 charging port. It also features vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities, enabling it to supply external power to devices.

Inside, the dashboard layout of the J7 PHEV is similar to that of the petrol variant, featuring a 10.25-inch driver’s display and a 14.8-inch portrait touchscreen infotainment system. However, the centre console of the plug-in hybrid differs by lacking a traditional transmission selector. The cupholders are positioned side-by-side as opposed to tandem in the petrol version, and the rotary drive mode selector is replaced with a row of simplified buttons in the PHEV.

Upon its launch, the petrol-powered J7 was priced at RM138,800 for the 2WD model and RM148,800 for the 4WD version. Therefore, the plug-in hybrid variant is expected to carry a slightly higher price tag than the petrol models. Click here to show your interest in the Jaecoo J7 PHEV.
