Aston Martin’s exclusive Lagonda Taraf sedan prototype, which boasts a V12 engine and a price tag in the million-dollar range, is an impressive vehicle. I had the opportunity to drive it in England for a couple of days, and I can attest that it’s a remarkable and unusual car that sticks in your mind—almost like a fond memory of a past relationship. According to Car and Driver, CEO Andy Palmer believes the Lagonda Taraf has the potential to serve as the foundation for a series of ultra-luxurious sedans designed to rival the likes of Bentley and Rolls-Royce.
Palmer stated, “I think Lagonda can be a hugely credible brand in that part of the market. We know how to make cars handle, we know how to make them luxurious, and we have already made and sold sedans,” to C+D.
He indicated that the most probable plan involves creating a two-model Lagonda lineup. However, much like Aston Martin’s aspirations to establish a sub-brand of hypercars with its new Valkyrie—designed to take on Ferrari and Lamborghini—these concepts are still in the exploratory phase. Although the prototype Lagonda Taraf is based on the Rapide, C+D points out that “no new Lagondas have progressed beyond the drawing board yet.” If Mr. Palmer happens to be reading this, I would like to add a vote in favor of pursuing this exciting avenue.
