The name Chris Cutler caught our eye and that of many others as he fashioned an Acura NSX trailer for his Acura NSX. He cut one in half to tow behind the other, and his self-made efforts even sparked Acura’s interest to replicate the concept with brand new models of the high-performance car. Sadly, it is with a heavy heart that I share the news of Cutler’s untimely passing in a collision during the early hours of Monday while driving a 2001 Honda S2000.

NBC Connecticut has mentioned that Cutler was traveling on I-91 South in Wallingford when he collided with a barrier near exit 13. Following the impact and veering off the road down a slope, he was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital where he tragically succumbed to his injuries. He was just 41 years old.

Although Cutler was not personally known to me, a number of my colleagues in the Northeast had the opportunity to meet him. He frequently attended grassroots gatherings, such as 7’s Day in NYC, where our Social Media Editor Maddox Kay initially conversed with him in 2022. Aaron Segal, a product manager at the parent organization of The Drive, also encountered Cutler and his canine companion Cassius multiple times at automotive exhibitions in the vicinity. Both individuals speak highly of him, commending not only his evident creativity but also his compassion.

“He truly embodied goodness,” Segal shares with me. “He cherished the community and took pleasure in showcasing his project to everyone.”

“His ultimate aspiration was to traverse all 48 states in that configuration alongside his dog,” Segal reminisces.

Respect and sympathies have flooded the comment areas of Cutler’s Instagram, where he was known as @nsxtra. That profile has almost 75,000 followers who appreciated his adventurous projects and the inspiring art they produced.

This isn’t the typical content we usually feature on this platform, but we want to honor Cutler and showcase his impact on the automotive community. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones, friends, and all those influenced by his passion. Losing someone like Chris is never easy.

Update at 9:45 a.m. ET on 04/04/2024: Close friends have set up a GoFundMe page to assist Cutler’s mother in covering the funeral costs. If you’re able and willing to contribute, please click here.
