Introducing the latest beadlock-capable wheels from Unplugged Performance for the Tesla Model Y. While these innovative wheels won’t magically transform a Model Y into a rugged off-road machine, they will enhance the performance of upgraded Teslas in more challenging off-road conditions.
Curious about beadlock wheels? Essentially, these wheels enable the tire’s bead to be mounted on the outer side of the rim. This setup involves an additional outer ring that is bolted on top of the tire bead, securing it in place. The primary goal is to allow for lower tire pressure than conventional setups, providing enhanced traction in extreme off-road conditions.
Conventional tires see the bead pressure-fitted into the wheel’s rim, suitable for everyday use. Beadlock tires, in contrast, are primarily reserved for extreme off-road and military vehicles because a pressure-fitted tire bead can dislodge from the wheel at low tire pressures.
What sets UP’s wheels apart is their dual functionality. For serious off-roading, you can mount the tires outside the rim with the beadlock ring fastened using the provided titanium bolts. Alternatively, if you prefer non-beadlock usage, conventional mounting is an option, with the beadlock ring stored separately. Utilizing the beadlock allows for tire pressures as low as five psi, according to UP.
The UP-03 wheels are exclusively available as 18-inch variants, designed to fit Tesla’s standard bolt pattern and compatible with its stock lug nuts, center caps, and TPMS. Crafted from forged aluminum, these beadlock wheels come in satin black or satin titanium finish. Each wheel is priced at $1,123.75, making a complete set cost $4,495.
Save for very loose sand, the beadlock feature of these wheels is targeted towards significantly modified Tesla Model Ys. Environments necessitating the increased grip and contact patch of ultra-low-pressure tires are usually encountered by extensively altered off-road vehicles. If you are a Tesla enthusiast who genuinely ventures off-road with your Model Y, these new UP-03 wheels could prove beneficial.
