Reports suggest that Hyundai is gearing up to unveil the production iteration of the N Vision 74 on May 27, during a special “Pony Day” event at its studio in Seoul. The design is supposedly attributed to Fabrizio Giugiaro, the son of the original designer of the Pony Coupe, although details about the production model remain sparse.
On May 8, Korean newspaper Wikitree cited sources within Hyundai denying any plans for the vehicle, refuting the initial report. A Hyundai U.S. spokesperson stated a lack of information on the matter and could not confirm or deny the report.
The concept boasts 670 horsepower generated by two electric motors on the rear axle, powered by a combination of batteries and a hydrogen fuel cell. Given the limited hydrogen infrastructure, actualizing the car’s full potential beyond specific areas may prove challenging, potentially leading to the use of a more conventional drivetrain for the forthcoming production model. This could involve a fully electric powertrain akin to Hyundai’s existing Ioniq range or a hybrid solution derived from the RM19 prototype. It may also allow Hyundai to leverage previous work from its scrapped mid-engined sports car program.
Irrespective of its final configuration, witnessing the transformation of such a widely acclaimed design into a production vehicle is anticipated. The potential also looms for Kia or Genesis to explore their iterations, though imagining them rivaling what could potentially be Korea’s most groundbreaking car is a stretch.
UPDATE (May 11): This story has been updated with an additional report contesting the rumored launch of the vehicle later this month.
