The NSX met its end last year, leaving Honda’s global range devoid of a specific sports car. However, this is set to change as the Japanese automaker prepares to showcase a brand-new electric sports model next month.
The presentation is scheduled for the Japan Mobility Show in October, formerly known as the Tokyo Motor Show.
Honda has a busy agenda with the introduction of several new electric vehicles. One of the highlights is the Specialty Sports concept. Described by Honda as “the idea of an electric sports car that allows
drivers to enjoy the thrill of driving and break free from time limitations, even in the age of electrification for carbon neutrality and the prevalence of automated driving technology.”
Acura has already hinted at a potential successor to the NSX. Will Honda reveal more of this or something entirely different? Acura
At present,
all we have are marketing teasers and limited information. There are currently two main theories regarding the possible identity of the concept. One theory suggests that Honda will introduce a concept
previewing an electric successor to the NSX. Acura had previously teased this idea through its Acura Electric Vision Design
Study earlier this year, providing a glimpse of a new EV with authentic supercar aesthetics. Outside the U.S., the NSX has traditionally been sold under the Honda brand.
On the other hand, Japanese blog Creative Trend proposes that the Specialty Sports Concept might be an electric successor to the Honda S2000 instead. The S2000 was launched on Honda’s 50th anniversary, and the company is now celebrating its 75th anniversary. Last year, Honda hinted at having two electric sports cars in development. The Specialty Sports Concept could potentially serve as a spiritual heir to the S2000, complementing the NSX successor in progress at Acura.
In any case, we’ll need to wait to see what Honda has in store for us. Our expectations are high based on the elusive glimpses we’ve received so far.
