Picture this scenario: You’ve managed to purchase the highly desirable new Honda Civic Type R. The much-anticipated day has arrived for you to pick up and drive home your exciting new hatchback. The car is all set, and you’re ready for the experience. You head to the dealership, where the salesman congratulates you, and at last, you drive off in your brand-new Type R, embracing the exhilarating new-car aroma and its impressive capabilities.
As you make your way home, excitement surges through you. You appreciate the absence of torque steer, enjoy the admiring glances from other drivers, and question Honda’s choice to eliminate the volume knob. Then, out of nowhere… BAM. A careless driver crashes into you from behind, propelling you into the car ahead.
This unfortunate chain of events actually transpired to one Greg Ellingson over the recent weekend.
As reported by Jalopnik, Greg traveled all the way from Philadelphia to Boston to acquire his Polished Metal Civic Type R, which set him back $39,000. While some may scoff at spending almost $40,000 on a Civic, this price might be considered a steal compared to higher prices at different dealerships. Fortunately, the collision that occurred just 150 miles into his drive home near Guilford, Connecticut, resulted in no injuries.
“Incredibly, I’m unhurt. The guy who hit me was going 30-35 mph and didn’t even brake,” Ellingson shared with Jalopnik.
Although the damage looks to be repairable, Ellingson is hoping that the insurance companies will deem the car a total loss so he can purchase a brand-new Civic Type R (preferably in that eye-catching gray shade) and start anew.
Is it too soon to claim that pristine-looking red Honda badge from the back?
