An executive at Genesis Motors has confirmed the desire to bring the Essentia concept car to life.

“Our dedication to the Essentia is strong,” stated Erwin Raphael, the executive director of Genesis North America, during a press briefing for Detroit journalists as reported by Automobile. “We have a deep admiration for the car and believe it will perform exceptionally well.”

Raphael further mentioned that the Essentia is envisioned as an exclusive, limited-edition vehicle. However, there is uncertainty whether it will stand as the sports coupe previously pledged by the Korean high-end vehicle manufacturer or as a distinct flagship car. Senior executives within the organization have indicated that most of the unique Essentia features, like copper wheels, a transparent hood, and a carbon fiber body, are feasible at its upscale price point, although the butterfly doors may not make the final cut.

In theory, production could commence as early as 2021. However, a Genesis representative informed The Drive that Raphael’s declarations should not be interpreted as a definitive commitment to actualizing the Essentia.

“What Erwin articulated is our commitment to exploring the possibility of bringing a vehicle like the Essentia Concept to life,” clarified a Genesis spokesperson to The Drive. “It’s quite different from a firm commitment to production!”

Genesis is currently in the midst of organizational changes to separate its retail network from that of its parent company, Hyundai. This implies that if the Essentia materializes, it won’t be retailed alongside the Elantra. This reorganization has contributed to a decline in Genesis sales over recent months, but a resurgence is anticipated as Genesis regains distributor licenses on a state-by-state basis.

The Genesis Essentia first made its debut at the 2018 New York International Auto Show, where it captivated our lead automotive critic Lawrence Ulrich, among others. It concluded an international tour of automotive exhibitions and related events in late August at Monterey Car Week. Despite its stunning appearance, traditional automakers stole the spotlight with new releases, such as Lamborghini unveiling the latest Aventador SVJ. Surprisingly, some within The Drive team believe that the Genesis Essentia surpasses the Aventador in terms of aesthetics, and anticipation is high to witness the final design of the production model.
