Ford is set to recall approximately 2.15 million vehicles in the United States due to defective door latches. This recall is a reiteration of a previous repair initiative, meaning that vehicles previously addressed during two earlier recalls related to this issue may need to return to the dealership for additional corrections.

The fundamental issue involves the pawl spring tabs of the door latch, which can degrade over time, especially when subjected to high temperatures. If this occurs, the door may not close properly and could potentially open while the vehicle is in motion. Ford has stated that they have not received reports of any accidents or injuries attributable to this malfunction.

The following models are included in this recall:

  • 2011-14 Ford Fiesta vehicles manufactured at Cuautitlán Assembly Plant from January 26, 2010, to October 31, 2013
  • 2012-15 Ford Focus vehicles produced at Michigan Assembly Plant from October 4, 2010, to January 31, 2015
  • 2013-14 Ford Fusion vehicles built at Hermosillo Assembly Plant between May 11, 2012, and October 31, 2013
  • 2013-14 Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured at Hermosillo Assembly Plant from July 19, 2012, to October 31, 2013
  • 2013-15 Ford Escape vehicles produced at Louisville Assembly Plant from December 23, 2011, to January 31, 2015
  • 2013-15 Ford C-MAX vehicles built at Michigan Assembly Plant from February 2, 2012, to January 31, 2015
  • 2014 Ford Fusion vehicles manufactured at Flat Rock Assembly Plant between June 18, 2013, and October 31, 2013
  • 2014-16 Ford Transit Connect vehicles built at Valencia Body and Assembly Plant from August 9, 2013, to February 1, 2016
  • 2015 Ford Mustang vehicles produced at Flat Rock Assembly Plant from February 14, 2014, to April 30, 2015
  • 2015 Lincoln MKC vehicles manufactured at Louisville Assembly Plant from November 18, 2013, to January 31, 2015

Dealers will inspect the latch date codes to ascertain if replacements are necessary. To expedite the process, Ford plans to create a website where potentially affected owners can enter their door latch date codes to check if a repair is needed.

In conjunction with this recall announcement, Ford has also revealed a smaller recall affecting 292,311 units of the 2014-2017 F-150 equipped with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine, due to a potential leak in the brake master cylinder.

The affected models in this separate recall include:

  • Selected 2015-17 Ford F-150 vehicles manufactured at Dearborn Truck Plant from October 1, 2014, to August 1, 2016
  • Selected 2014-17 Ford F-150 vehicles built at Kansas City Assembly Plant between September 1, 2014, and August 1, 2016

Ford has received reports of seven low-speed accidents and two injury claims associated with this brake master cylinder issue.

Dealers will replace the brake master cylinder in the affected trucks, and technicians will also examine and replace the brake booster if it is found to be leaking.
