Avid enthusiasts of muscle cars will be familiar with the Yenko/SC designation. It represents the boldest, meanest Camaro that had to circumvent GM’s regulations to house the 427 cubic inch 450-horsepower behemoth engine. The original 1967 Yenko Camaros hold legendary status. Now, Specialty Vehicle Engineering (SVE) is introducing the contemporary Yenko/SC Camaro boasting a 1,500 horsepower 7.0-liter V8.
The modern Yenko Camaro comes in three stages. While the 1,500 hp variant is labeled as Stage III, there are two preceding increments before reaching the pinnacle. The Yenko Stage I offers a modest 1,150 hp and 910 lb-ft of torque, Stage II escalates the power figures to 1,200 hp and 1,000 lb-ft, and Stage III, once more, returns with 1,500 hp and 1,280 lb-ft, but on the condition that it achieves those numbers solely on race fuel. Stages I and II are equipped with a 6.8-liter engine deriving from the LT1 series, contrasting with the 7.0-liter iron block of Stage III. Additionally, customers can select between automatic or manual transmissions across all stages.
SVE affirms no alterations to the suspension system to complement the power boost, maintaining the exemplary Camaro 1LE features intact. This includes magnetic dampers, GM’s electronic limited-slip differential, performance traction management, heavy-duty cooling, and Recaro seats. Externally, the Yenko/SC receives a visual package reminiscent of the original Yenko Camaro. A black stripe accentuates the primary shoulder line of the Camaro bearing the inscription “Yenko/SC” on the rear quarter panels. A unique elevated carbon fiber hood is integrated to accommodate the supercharged engine, accompanied by a substantial rear wing.
Despite not being manufactured by GM, SVE has collaborated closely with the automaker in producing specialty vehicles. Only 50 Stage I and Stage II models will be assembled, alongside 100 Stage IIIs. The pricing for the Yenko/SC is undisclosed by SVE, however, it’s safe to assume it will command a premium. These vehicles are exclusively obtainable through dealers in the U.S. and Canada, so if you desire a 1,500-horsepower sendoff for the sixth-generation Camaro, this could be the perfect choice.
