After witnessing the McLaren 720S outpace a range of competitors, including the 1,000 HP Ford GT and the Tesla Model S P100D, it is clear that this latest model from Woking is impressively fast. Whether launching from a standstill or accelerating from a roll, the 720S demonstrates the capability to outperform some of the most exotic supercars on the market. Recently, Brooks from the YouTube channel DragTimes showcased the 720S’s prowess on the drag strip, achieving a remarkable sub-10 second quarter-mile time.
This performance is extraordinary and puts the McLaren on par with some of the fastest hypercars, such as the Porsche 918 Spyder, which costs four times more and only manages to surpass the McLaren by a mere 0.04 seconds.
In fact, the recorded time of 9.98 seconds is three-tenths quicker than the official figure provided by McLaren for the 720S. Similarly, dyno tests reveal that the car produces about 700 horsepower at the wheels, suggesting that its true power output is likely around 800 hp when accounting for the crank figure quoted by the manufacturer.
The owner of this 720S asserts that the car is completely stock, including its original Pirelli P Zero tires. It boasts impressive acceleration times, reaching 0-60 miles per hour in just 2.5 seconds and achieving 0-100 mph in 5.2 seconds. In one of its fastest runs, the vehicle recorded a trap speed of 141 mph, one of the highest for any car available in 2017 irrespective of its price.
