It’s safe to say that few trucks can handle rock crawling with as few modifications as the Jeep Wrangler. These vehicles, which feel almost out of place in today’s car market, constantly raise concerns about whether future models will retain their rock-climbing capabilities. However, the upcoming 2018 Wrangler seems to maintain these features—new interior enhancements aside. Watching a prime example of the Wrangler’s prowess can help reinforce appreciation for this classic design.

However, success is not guaranteed. Too much throttle could cause the Wrangler to tip back, while too little would leave it stuck. Initially, I was puzzled about how the driver would navigate the steep terrain, but it quickly became clear that this specific rock formation was perfectly suited to the rugged TJ model. The wall’s incline is just right, and the Jeep’s short wheelbase, along with its excellent approach and departure angles, prevents it from getting hung up.

As the Jeep nears a vertical position, its front axle clears the top of the wall, and it appears to ascend effortlessly. Within moments, what started at eye level elevates to an impressive eight feet above the camera. The person filming sums up the moment perfectly with a delighted laugh: “That’s cool. That’s way cool.”

As previously mentioned, this area seems particularly suited for Wranglers. Here’s a video showcasing a larger, more modified model expertly maneuvering the same spot with remarkable efficiency:
