The Hyundai i30, known as the Elantra GT in some regions, is set to kick off an anticipated lineup of high-performance N models from the automaker. It aims to compete in the compact car segment against established rivals like the Honda Civic Si, Volkswagen’s GTI, and Ford’s Focus ST. To distinguish itself from its economical roots and formidable competition, the i30 N must deliver an impressive sound. Fortunately, Hyundai has shared a brief, polished video showcasing the i30 N’s exhaust note, allowing us to evaluate its appeal. We hope its audio performance exceeds that of the rather subdued Kia Stinger we heard recently. So, put those headphones on, everyone:

Well, it certainly represents an improvement over the Stinger. The exhaust note might come off as slightly rough and unpolished for some listeners, but I believe it sounds great for its category. I’m particularly drawn to the way it crackles during shifts. The popping and banging when it downshifts clearly reflects its resemblance to the Focus RS. Additionally, the engine’s startup and idle definitely exude a thrilling presence.

That said, what one person considers music might not resonate with another. What are your thoughts on the sound of Hyundai’s flagship N model? Feel free to share your opinions in the comments.
