Experience Driving Your McLaren on Snowy Terrain with Pirelli Winter Tires

In the past, I often found myself debating with others about how to handle my car during Chicago’s harsh winters. Personally, I enjoyed shocking onlookers by cruising around in my convertible with the top down during snowstorms, especially when performing doughnuts in the streets. However, many believed I was “ruining a nice car” by exposing it to winter conditions. There’s a common perception that sports cars should be cared for meticulously, kept dry, and protected from rain, as if there’s an egg underneath the gas and brake pedals. My philosophy is to drive it as if you stole it, no matter the weather.

It appears that those at McLaren share my sentiment. The luxury automaker has partnered with Pirelli to launch a new winter wheel and tire package specifically designed for its Sports Series models. This McLaren Winter Wheels and Tires set will include four lightweight fourteen-spoke forged wheels finished in a stealthy design, fitted with Pirelli MC Sottozero 3 winter tires.

Engineers from both companies developed these tires particularly for the 540C, 570S, 570GT, and the new 570S Spider. They come pre-mounted and balanced, making it simple for owners to switch from their summer tires to enjoy winter driving. These winter tires greatly enhance performance in poor road and weather conditions. Compared to summer tires, the winter options are projected to shorten braking distance by 10 percent in wet conditions and by up to 20 percent on snowy surfaces. Indeed, McLaren has shown how significantly these tires can improve traction on snow-covered roads with your 570. That’s the kind of winter advice I find invaluable.

Speaking about this new offering, Carl Whipp, the aftersales director at McLaren Automotive, stated, “Selecting the appropriate tires for seasonal weather and road conditions is essential for every McLaren driver who wants to enjoy their vehicle safely year-round. Whether winter tires are required by law or not, having a second set of wheels ready allows our customers to easily switch to the best tire option once winter arrives. This is precisely why we collaborated with our tire partner, Pirelli, to provide the McLaren Winter Wheels and Tires set exclusively through McLaren Retailers.”

You now have McLaren’s official endorsement for winter driving. Just don’t forget to rinse off any salt before parking your McLaren back in the garage.
