Mercedes-Benz has officially started production of the freshly updated S-Class at its Sindelfingen plant. This new version of the S-Class features significantly enhanced semi-autonomous technology, which the automaker is also utilizing during the vehicle’s assembly.

In a short video, Markus Schäfer, a board member overseeing production and supply chain at Mercedes-Benz, takes the new flagship model for a spin, traveling from the end of the assembly line to the final loading area of the Sindelfingen facility, all while enjoying the luxurious passenger seat.

“The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class sets global benchmarks for safety, comfort, connectivity, and is paving the way for automated driving. The S-Class’s automated journey from the production line to the loading zone illustrates the future of using driver assistance systems in manufacturing,” Schäfer stated.

It’s important to note that the S 560 4MATIC seen in the video relies on an array of semi-autonomous technologies, external cameras, and sensors to navigate the nearly one-mile distance, making this experience not one to replicate at home. Nevertheless, it offers intriguing insights into how future autonomous vehicles could simplify life for both consumers and the assembly teams that create them.

As Schäfer suggests, the next iteration of the S-Class may achieve fully autonomous journeys that extend much further than one mile, potentially eliminating the need for traditional car transport methods..
