In the midst of applications closing for the initial two production years of Mustang GTD, Ford prepares to introduce the most cutting-edge and daring Mustang to Europe. Scheduled for its premiere at the renowned 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Mustang GTD will embark on European roads for testing. These tests aim to set the stage for an official performance run in the final quarter of 2024 at the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit.
Chief Program Engineer for the Mustang GTD, Greg Goodall, remarked, “We have extensively tested the Mustang GTD in North America, including extensive track time at Sebring International Raceway and Virginia International Raceway. All these efforts were directed towards crafting a vehicle capable of clocking under seven minutes at the Nurburgring.” He added, “Transitioning to European roads and dedicated test sessions at the Nürburgring is the logical progression, leading up to a timed run later this year.”
Designed to outperform Europe’s finest, the Mustang GTD will follow its European debut at Le Mans with appearances at the 24 Hours of Spa and the esteemed Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Alongside the debut in Europe, a new online narrative series will unveil the intricate components and engineering behind the Mustang GTD, depicting it as the benchmark among supercars. Utilizing lifelike computer-generated renderings, the series will showcase the state-of-the-art suspension, supercharged V8 engine aiming for over 800 horsepower, and more.
These visuals and videos portray high-performance gear in a manner that corresponds with the high-performance essence of the Mustang GTD. The introduction of the Mustang GTD in Europe coincides with the region gearing up to accept applications from potential owners. The application window for North American buyers closed on May 21, attracting over 7,500 applicants for the 2025 or 2026 Mustang GTD models. This diverse group of applicants, particularly motorsports enthusiasts, demonstrates the widespread appeal of the Mustang GTD. More than 20 percent of traffic on the Mustang GTD application portal hails from the motorsport community. Additionally, one in four individual applicants currently own a Mustang, while one in five possess a similar high-performance vehicle from a competitor.
Jim Owens, Brand Manager for the Mustang GTD, expressed, “With the Mustang GTD, our aim was to create a road-legal race car imbued with the spirit of a Mustang and the desire to surpass Europe’s finest. Since opening applications to North American buyers, we have witnessed a positive response from customers who connect with this goal.” Owens further stated, “Whether they own a rival sports car or another Mustang, the race-inspired performance of the Mustang GTD resonates strongly.”
Further details on European applications are set to be unveiled in June.
