In the year 2020, the talented automotive
designer Kasim Tlibekov unveiled a concept of a sleek first-generation
Mazda Miata speedster. Captivated by the rendering,
Xenex Motorsports took on the challenge of bringing this vision to life with the MX Speedster kit, recently showcased at the prestigious Amelia Island
Cars & Caffeine event and soon to be available for purchase.
This innovative MX Speedster kit comprises a lightweight body design that replaces various components including the front and rear bumpers, front fenders, trunk lid, rear fenders, and the rear tonneau cover, while eliminating the windshield. Drawing inspiration from classic speedsters like the revered 1954
Porsche 356 Speedster, this kit features a minimal windshield solely for the driver’s use. To shield themselves from debris, both occupants in the front seats are advised to wear protective gear, preferably helmets or sunglasses.
According to the team at Xenex Motorsports, the MX Speedster kit significantly reduces the curb weight of the original NA Miata by
250 pounds, enhancing its aerodynamic
performance. Optional upgrades include 17-inch wheels, Wilwood brakes, and a specialized “track-ready suspension.”
Weighing in at approximately 1,860 pounds, the MX Speedster effortlessly utilizes the stock 1.6-liter four-cylinder Mazda engine with its capable 116 horsepower. For enthusiasts seeking an enhanced power-to-weight ratio, Xenex Motorsports presents two compelling options for customization.
The MX Speedster S boasts a supercharger kit by Fastforward Superchargers, elevating the power output to around 200 horsepower. For those craving an even more thrilling experience, the MX Speedster RS variant offers a radical transformation by substituting the original Miata engine with a formidable 350-horsepower LS-V8 engine.
Enthusiasts eagerly anticipating the release will have to exercise patience a little while longer as Xenex Motorsports finalizes the MX Speedster kit through stringent testing sessions with professional drivers utilizing four test vehicles. Although pricing details are yet to be disclosed, Xenex plans to commence accepting orders in April 2023.
