On the whole, not entirely clear why, but vehicle-themed television series often lack luster. If disregarding all the various Shouting Bearded Mechanic Garage reality programs, it’s generally preferable to seek a top-notch series incorporating some impressive automobiles, like Breaking Bad, rather than tuning into a program solely dedicated to cars. Recall the initial season of American Auto? It’s no surprise it got axed after two seasons. However, a potentially different tale might unfold with the debut of Tires on Netflix.

As depicted in the teaser below, the series revolves around a character named Shane, portrayed by comic and short-lived Saturday Night Live cast member Shane Gillis, who toils for his relative Will, enacted by Steve Gerben, that recently inherited his deceased father’s string of auto repair establishments, facing a bleak scenario. Will he steer the failing business to success, or will Shane be the downfall?

The premise may lack complete excitement, but it demonstrates potential. What lies far more crucial is the caliber of writing and performances. Encouragingly, Stavros Halkias is part of the ensemble cast, instilling heightened confidence in the series being genuinely humorous. Further, the preview conveys a sense of genuine promise for the series? Verdict holds until watching the six recently aired episodes, yet Netflix has greenlit a follow-up season, adding to the positive outlook. American Auto, conversely, seemed unimpressive in its preview.

At the least, giving the preview a glance is warranted, and if equipped with Netflix, viewing a few episodes should be on the agenda. Possibly, once the morning updates settle, Rory might permit a sampling of an episode or two for a firsthand assessment on its quality. (FINE —RC)
