Labor Day weekend typically signifies the conclusion of summer; though for equinox enthusiasts, three more weeks of this oppressive heat remain. Currently, I’m in Hawaii, tending to my parents—definitely feeling the heat (largely due to hurricane season, not my dad’s corny jokes). However, one thing you won’t witness here is Mustangs displaying recklessness, charging out of a car meet and smashing headfirst into obstacles like walls, utility poles, or trees. But for one Mustang driver in Illinois, their thrill-seeking led them to collide with a C6 Corvette.
In the “MustangsCrashings” subreddit, a never-ending source of submissions, user @BeastCheng posted a brief video featuring a blacked-out sixth-generation Mustang leaving a cars & coffee event in Lockport, Illinois, situated around 40 miles southeast of Chicago. Unfortunately, the story didn’t end there, especially given the nature of the Mustang.
After departing from the caffeine-fueled gathering hosted by KRW Performance & Customs, an off-camera bystander urged the Mustang driver, shouting, “Light it up!” Perhaps this person was blissfully unaware of how Mustang enthusiasts typically respond to such encouragement, or perhaps they were seeking chaos. Regardless, what followed was predictable.
The Mustang barely made it past a nearby auto repair shop, Gombosi Tire, before the rear began to drift. In an attempt to correct, the driver oversteered and executed a hard 180-degree turn.
The vehicle’s forward motion was halted when the left front wheel struck the sidewalk. As the left rear followed, the Mustang leaped the curb and crashed into an innocent C6 Corvette parked nearby. Once the dust settled, another observer could be heard exclaiming, “What are you doing?!”
Clearly, being reckless.
Interestingly, the most astonishing aspect of this 12-second clip is that the three people nearest to the impact barely reacted. A man seems to instinctively place a protective arm in front of a female companion, reminiscent of when someone braces a passenger during a sudden hard brake. But this scenario was far more dangerous; a nearly 4,000-pound vehicle was hurtling toward them. Yet, remarkably, they stayed put.
Wow, it seems like the locals in Lockport are fearless. By the way, Mustang Week kicks off today. For those attending the event in North Myrtle Beach, enjoy yourselves, but please remember to drive safely.
