The Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) has announced that Elon Musk will be a featured speaker at its 2024 Annual Meeting, taking place at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas. Musk is set to discuss the various initiatives of Neuralink during his interview.

The CNS Annual Meeting is recognized as one of the largest gatherings in the neurosurgery field. According to the organization’s official website, this year’s event aims to “reflect on the historical journey and current state of neurosurgery, using a fresh lens to synthesize insights and chart a course for an enlightened future.”

Musk’s involvement in the 2024 CNS Annual Meeting comes as no surprise, given his prominent role in the brain-computer interface (BCI) sector through Neuralink. The CNS has indicated that Musk will participate in the event virtually, where he will engage in discussions with CNS President Dr. Alexander Khalessi on a variety of topics.

The session will address the challenges of developing and scaling brain-computer interfaces (BCI) and Neuralink’s innovative strategies for tackling these issues to benefit patients. It will also explore the future direction of this evolving field, as stated by the CNS wrote.

Currently, Neuralink has only a couple of human patients, but the potential for the company’s technology is significant. They have released one product, Telepathy, which allows individuals with paralysis to control technology such as computers and smartphones using their thoughts. So far, both patients seem to be adapting well to their brain implants.

Neuralink’s future products promise to be even more ambitious. According to Elon Musk, the next development will be named “Blindsight,” aimed at restoring vision for individuals who have lost their sight. Reports suggest that Blindsight has been designated as a “breakthrough device” by the FDA.
