Scout is back.
This Tuesday, Scout Motors announced that it will unveil its electric SUV and truck concepts on October 10.
Thanks to Volkswagen, the historic brand Scout is making a comeback. Part of the Volkswagen Group, Scout is being operated independently and is regarded as a start-up automaker. The brand is focusing on producing an electric SUV and truck.
Scout EV plant groundbreaking
The most recent teaser includes a roof-mounted compass, while earlier previews showcased brick-like shapes for both the electric truck and SUV. Their rugged designs draw inspiration from the classic International Harvester Scout SUV, which was produced from 1960 to 1980.
Both the SUV and truck will be manufactured at a new $2 billion factory near Columbia, South Carolina. Once fully operational, the facility is expected to produce 200,000 vehicles a year and create 4,000 permanent jobs. Magna is collaborating with VW to expedite the development of the body-on-frame chassis for the Scout electric vehicles.

The debuting SUV is anticipated to be priced around $40,000, with the larger pickup launching shortly thereafter, priced slightly higher than its SUV counterpart.
Scout Motors’ CEO, Scott Keogh, who previously led Volkswagen America, has referred to the SUV as a “Rugged Utility Vehicle,” or RUV.
Volkswagen has invested $5 billion in Rivian to utilize its zonal electrical architecture. This architecture will be applied across various brands within the Volkswagen Group, although it remains uncertain whether this deal was executed in time for the integration into the two Scout electric vehicles.
