Dodge is dedicated to the sale of crate engines, distinguishing themselves in the industry. The company’s business model revolves around the sale of engines and high-performance aftermarket components through its Direct Connection catalog and Power Broker dealers. Today, they introduce several new products. While they do offer some six-cylinder Hurricane crates, the standout item is the formidable Hellephant C170, boasting an impressive 1,025 horsepower, which serves as the powerhouse of the new Demon 170.

In addition to the larger engines, the smaller ones are equally noteworthy and are part of an extensive lineup recently announced by the automaker. The top-tier “HurriCrate,” known as the Cat 3, delivers 550 hp. Also available is the Cat 1, a more modest 420-hp version. These variants are priced at around $6,500 and $9,000, respectively. Various other V8 options cater to different price points surrounding these models.

Expectedly, the most expensive engine is the aforementioned Hellephant C170, priced at $27,695 for the complete package. Dodge also offers the long block separately for $18,995, excluding items like the 3.0-liter IHI supercharger, exhaust components, and select accessories, while retaining the robust bottom end. It can be likened to a 6.2-liter Hellcat Redeye engine, but with enhanced performance.

As prices decrease, the performance remains exceptionally strong. The 807-hp, 6.2-liter Redeye long block costs $12,995, the standard Hellcat’s 717-hp 6.2-liter is priced at $9,495, and the 485-hp naturally aspirated 392 crate engine is available for $6,995. Even the 5.7-liter 345 V8 long block is obtainable at just $4,495, delivering a solid 385 hp.

The catalog featuring these engines is now accessible for download on Dodge’s Direct Connection website. The premier C170 crate will be released in Q1 of 2024. Missing the holiday season launch window? Come on, Dodge. Direct Connection also offers a range of other components including drivetrain parts, superchargers, suspension enhancements, and additional high-performance gear.
