A recent misunderstanding between a Detroit musician and the local police escalated into gunfire. This incident occurred last Saturday when a local rapper was shooting a music video that included a staged carjacking on Six Mile Road. Reports from police and social media indicate that officers arrived at the scene and opened fire.
In the video shared online, two masked men are seen using a Jeep Wrangler to block an Aston Martin. They exited their vehicle carrying what looked like firearms and began mimicking an armed assault on the Aston Martin driver.
Detroit police responded to reports of an armed robbery involving the Jeep. According to spokesperson Dan Donakowski, when officers arrived, one of the suspects pointed a weapon at them, prompting an officer to fire three shots at the so-called "robbers." Fortunately, no one was harmed in the exchange of gunfire, according to The Detroit Free Press.
Unbeknownst to the police, the individuals in the Jeep were simply filming a music video; they had not applied for filming permits or informed authorities about their staged robbery. This miscommunication led to all three men being arrested.
A reminder for future reference: if you’re planning to stage a carjacking scene complete with masks and guns, it’s advisable to seek the appropriate permits and notify the police beforehand.
