Despite missing the Heritage exhibition of Deep in the Woods last September, I was excited to be back for the recent ‘Deep In The Forest’ main occasion this month, marking its remarkable 10th anniversary.
As previously highlighted in my 2023 report, the inception of this gathering can be traced back to a convivial BBQ with the Custom Junkys auto club in 2014. Fast forward a decade, Deep in the Woods continues to flourish, exuding more energy than ever before. This year, Deep In The Forest drew in over 500 automobiles and approximately 5,000 attendees to a fresh location.
Germany is facing a current crisis with bark beetles, leading to substantial deforestation. To combat this issue, Deep in the Woods had to switch venues from the old forest shooting range.
To maintain the event’s essence, the planners decided to shift the location to the Biathlon Stadium in Oberhof. Situated in a town with just 1,700 inhabitants, this venue, typically reserved for winter sports, rests around 800 meters above sea level. While it may be less secluded in the woods compared to previous settings, it remains enveloped by the forest.
The expansive stands at the stadium provided a unprecedented view into the lush surroundings, creating an unforgettable atmosphere for all attendees.
a wonderful viewpoint to observe the vehicles and the multitude.
What distinguishes Deep In The Forest from other occasions is its unique schedule: commencing at 5:00pm, proceeding late into the night with a post-party starting at 11. Despite the more spacious, metropolitan environment this year, the gathering was converted into a snug, lively ambience with gleaming lights, neon signs, and a varied array of food trucks and merchants. It seems like an entirely distinct affair as the sun descends and the illuminations ignite.
The positive energies were enhanced by DJs broadcasting Tief im Wald Radio, a blend of live performances and pre-recorded discourse.
One of the remarkable elements of this festivity is the lack of accolades. It’s all about appreciating automobiles and the society.
Despite the awaited date for Tief im Wald’s 2024 Heritage gala yet to be unveiled, Japanese-themed embellishments were a standout at Deep In The Forest. It flawlessly complemented several Japanese autos in attendance, including a lowered Mazda RX-8, a street-tuned Nissan S15, and a remarkably stylish FD3S Mazda RX-7.
