However, it may come as a surprise that this specific 2011 Subaru WRX STI has been converted into a convertible, but that’s precisely what has happened.
Currently, this unique vehicle is on sale at Manchester Subaru in New Hampshire. While it is listed as an Impreza WRX, a VIN check verifies that it is indeed an authentic STI model, rather than just a basic WRX enhanced with some aftermarket parts. Unlike many conversions that may be built in a garage by an amateur, this transformation was professionally carried out by Newport Specialty Cars in Placentia, California, back in January 2011. A car like this is more at home in California than in New England, especially where snowfall can last for six months or more each year.
The quality of the conversion seems impressive, as it preserves the original B-pillars and includes a brace for enhanced stiffness, similar to designs used in the VW Cabrio. This setup also maintains the factory seat belt attachment points for safety.
The soft top fits nicely and somewhat mirrors the design of the original car. However, the rear window is quite small, potentially resulting in significant blind spots. Nevertheless, the ideal scenario for this vehicle is to drive with the top down whenever possible, only raising it in case of unexpected rain.
