Storm Chaser Sean Casey’s TIV 2 Camera Truck Listed on Craigslist
Sean Casey, known for his storm-chasing exploits, has put his heavily modified TIV 2 camera truck up for sale on Craigslist. The vehicle, built on a classic Dodge Ram 3500 dually pickup, resembles a small tank with its impressive armor plating and ten wheels spanning three driven axles.
Currently listed at $35,000 and located in Burbank, California, the TIV 2 has logged 130,000 miles. Prospective buyers can take comfort in the fact that it has had only one owner. The listing notes “light damage from debris,” but these marks are likely just signs of its action-packed history as evidenced by its previous appearances on screen.
The TIV 2 was featured prominently in Casey’s IMAX film Tornado Alley and has been showcased in various seasons of the Discovery Channel’s Storm Chasers series. Designed to navigate extreme weather conditions, the truck weighs a total of 15,000 pounds—10,000 pounds of which is accounted for by the two-inch-thick armor that encases it. Despite the heavy build, the vehicle’s modified 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel engine reportedly achieves 11 miles per gallon, and with a 92-gallon tank, it boasts a range of around 800 miles—a critical feature for storm chasers who can’t afford to run out of fuel in the midst of a tornado.
The TIV 2 includes unique features such as armored flaps that can adjust to provide off-road capability or protection against strong winds that might flip it over. In addition, equipped with bulletproof windows and four hydraulic anchoring spikes, it stands apart from your average pickup truck.
While the U.S. peak tornado season may have subsided, enthusiasts of severe weather know it’s always wise to prepare for the upcoming storm season.
The Drive reached out to the seller to learn more about the TIV 2, only to discover that it had sold within 24 hours of being listed. Ultimately, it sold for $30,000, $5,000 less than its original asking price.
