This week, Tom’s friend and engineer, David Piluski, fills in for Jill. The episode begins with an amusing correction regarding a mistake by Tom concerning a classic song. Although he mistakenly attributed the rendition of “See the U.S.A. in Your Chevrolet” to Doris Day, Tom’s mother reminded him it was actually Dinah Shore who sang it. You can catch a clip of the song during the show.
Also addressed in this segment was a second error highlighted by listener Celio, prompting Dave to recount an amusing mishap involving a rented Dodge Shadow Convertible in the early Nineties that had such structural flex that its doors would not shut properly on an incline.
Still in the first segment, Tom shares his thoughts on the newly designed Mazda CX-70 2-row midsize crossover, which unexpectedly boasts a luxurious feel. He also reviewed the eye-catching Lexus LC 500 Convertible and expressed his confusion as to why this model doesn’t sell more. Tune in for the full details of his review.
In the second segment, Dave and Tom welcome comic and renowned Chicago radio personality Steve Cochran. Steve discusses his podcast and reminisces about his first cars and his driving lessons, including the memorable moment he gave away a car at a radio station event.
The last segment features Tom’s “1983!” quiz, where Dave is put to the test. To conclude the episode, Dave provides updates on a California bill (SB961) currently awaiting Governor Gavin Newsom’s approval, which would mandate that cars notify drivers when they exceed the speed limit by more than 10 mph. He also mentions his own podcast, “Beyond Engineering.”
