Chrysler’s forthcoming “extremely limited production” high-power vehicle will be constructed on its current full-size sedan, the
2023 Chrysler 300C, as the carmaker verified on Monday.
The announcement was made in a tweet from
Chrysler assuring that “you’re going to appreciate what you C.” This humorous reference confirms the inadvertent revelation made on Chrysler’s own website, where an image from the original teaser leaked the identity of the car as a 2023 300C.
Even though the image only showed a close-up of the wheel of the car with a Brembo brake caliper visible, it provided a glimpse of what to anticipate from the initial fast 300C since the 2014 model. The four-piston caliper illustrated does not match the six-piston units at the front of the Charger Hellcat, indicating that the 300C may not be a Hellcat but probably a lower-level option, possibly equivalent to the Charger Scat Pack.
In addition to the four-piston Brembos at the front, the Scat Pack boasts an enhanced variant of the 6.4-liter V8 that was present in the 300C SRT8, providing an additional 15 horsepower and five pound-feet more torque. It is also equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission, unlike the 300C SRT8, which was last available with just a five-speed auto.
Chrysler is clearly bidding adieu to the 300C on a positive note, albeit maybe not quite as positive as many might expect. The truth will become apparent when Chrysler unveils its latest creation at 6 p.m. ET on Tuesday—and no, I won’t owe you a drink if it turns out to be a Hellcat after all.
