A superb imitation Aston Martin DB5, equipped with functional contrivances and Gatling guns in place of headlights, has been purchased at an auction aimed at raising funds for charitable causes. Originally crafted and customized by Aston Martin for the latest Bond film No Time To Die, this replica is part of a set of eight cars built for the movie, each with unique modifications. This one stands out among the rest.
The auction featured three exclusive Aston Martin models, including a 1981 Aston Martin V8 driven by Daniel Craig in No Time To Die. Donated by EON Productions, this particular vehicle raised $702,000 in support of UNHCR. The DB5 replica was generously donated by Aston Martin, with the proceeds benefiting The Prince’s Trust. The third vehicle showcased was a brand-new DBS Superleggera 007 Edition.
Both cars play crucial roles in the film and are operated by Bond himself. This specific DB5 stunt version is packed with unique features, such as the retractable machine gun headlights, prop explosives, and a rotating digital license plate. It appears to be equipped with safety measures like a roll cage for stunt sequences, a stripped-down interior, a hydraulic drift handbrake, and a manual gearbox. Some visible wear and tear adds authenticity, though it’s uncertain whether the blemishes are intentional or genuine.
In comparison, the V8 model remains completely unaltered, maintaining its authentic appearance as a hero car from the movies. Typically, stunt cars are stripped-down shells, but this particular vehicle seems to be in a drivable state and stands as a valuable collectible. Nonetheless, for most Bond enthusiasts, the DB5 remains the ultimate choice.
While it’s highly likely that the new owner of the DB5 will keep it safely tucked away in a meticulously controlled garage, it’s somewhat regrettable that the car may never see action again. The presence of a hydraulic handbrake practically begs for utilization. After all, it was purpose-built for stunts.
